Located at the Cite Island, the Conciergerie (part of a palace) became the first Paris prison in 1391.
It became famous during the 1789 French revolution: in 1793 and 1794, 2780 men and women were
sentenced to death and detained in the Conciergerie until they left for the Concorde Square where they
were beheaded. Marie-Antoinette, queen of France and sister of the king of Austria, was among them.
This Gothic Catholic chapel near Conciergerie was built in Paris in 1246 during the Middle Ages by Saint Louis,
the king of France.
La colonne Vendome is a monument to Napoleon's victory at the Battle of Austerliz.
Opera National de Paris (Opera Garnier) was built between 1862 and 1875.
Located in the Latin Quarter of Paris, Le Procope is reported to be the oldest operating restaurant
in the world since 1686. We had lunch here.
